![]() ![]() I remember the thread wars I had to have with the folks at Big Download over their attempts at "reporting" on GFWL topics (and they folded before GFWL did, deservedly so.). There were many people who did their best to hate it for its name alone. While a lot of people had issues, I only had a handful of minor hiccups, for example saves with the original Gears of War when I had to migrate saves to a new Hard Drive (and the expired certificate that caused Patch/Update 3 :D). My steam profile picture is my GFWL collection. I imported quite of number of physical versions (Russian Bioshock 2, Japanese Legend of the Galactic Heroes among the harder to find ones along with the all the ones that got physical releases in Europe) to get that done. I got my "GFWL Starter Kit" (keyboard, mouse, mousepad, headphones, 007 QoS, Fallout 4 all in one box) for doing that. Our community got up to around 10,000 members at peak summer 2009,Īs far as I know, I am the only person who got at least one achievement in every GFWL game legit - no ISOs, no exploiting the serial number trick, etc., nothing like that. That aspect only lasted about 1.5 years (from late 2007 to early 2009) and then it went free, but few seem to remember that (EDIT: some folks on here do hooray!). Microsoft did listen to us when we spoke in number. I also remember when I had to go onto the Kotaku Podcast via phone (back when it was Totilo and Crecente) and set folks straight on the fact the "paid" aspect was something one of our own community members got fixed by speaking out. I remember it fondly (THERE ARE DOZENS OF US!.gif), and with a little bit of creativity, it still works to this day. ![]()
